The Alternative, Upcycled Speaker Revolution Cometh

The awesomely simple Jammy! Boombox by Leaptronic is retro in its construction (wood!) and subscribes to the throwback theory that "impressive sound only comes when you move enough air."   Its modern electronics are paired with Baltic birch plywood.

Created by Michael E. Davis-Yates and spotted by Ikea Hackers after it appeared on MOCO LOCO, this is an adultish, progressive take on the large, portable sound system generally associated with rebellious youth. It even has 5.25″ subwoofers, ideal for making your kids think you're cool (again!).

It also fits nicely with the growing trend we've noticed in alternative and upcycled speaker design. Check out this suitcase speaker system from Mr. Simo.
