Part II of our IKEA SEKTION blog trilogy covered the step-by-step process of assembling a new SEKTION kitchen - the long-awaited replacement to IKEA's 20-year old AKURUM kitchen system. Now it's time to unveil the results!
A friend of ours had a vacant rental apartment in Boerum Hill, Brooklyn. We suspected that, here in this self-appointed nerve-center of culinary artisanality, the existing kitchen might not cut it for some potential renters. Of course this was also the grand excuse we were looking for to play with IKEA's as-yet-unavailable SEKTION kitchen system.
We purchased the kitchen online from IKEA UK and had it delivered by sea freight to Brooklyn. The total cost for the cabinets was $2615 including delivery. The granite counters were $2800 installed. It took a total of three and a half days to install with the help of Ron Yeomans, a master IKEA kitchen installer from TheKitchenCouple.com.
Overall it was an excellent experience. IKEA SKETION is impressively well designed, laying some legitimately luxurious features on top of a customization platform that is as open-ended as ever. As long as you commit the necessary effort to plan and execute your vision, our guess is you'll be very happy with the result.
